    Why Renée made it

"Many balms simply sit on the surface making you feel like it’s working, but in truth, it’s failing to correct the underlying dryness. This modern formula truly redefines dry skin moisture care. You can feel the moisture-locking seal become one with your skin."

  • Feel / Smell / Look

  • This light beige, fragrance-free balm has a luxurious creamy feel. As it dries down, the balm will feel slightly tacky (this is the unique 'second skin' affect). Once it melts into the skin, it now provides a long-lasting, moisture-locking seal without an unnecessary greasy after feel that can still be felt in the morning.

  • How To Use

  • Apply to face and neck nightly after cleanser, toner, and serum. For best results, leave toner damp before applying balm.

  • FAQs

  • Can I use this product if I'm pregnant?

Yes. There are no ingredients in this product deemed unsafe to use during pregnancy.

Is this product tested on animals?

     No.

What is the pH level of this product?

The pH level of Skin Recovery Balm is 6.4.

I'm used to using a heavier, greasier moisturizer and this one feels different. Is it enough?

Skin Recovery Balm goes beyond just using occlusives (one method of barrier repair) by using Barrier5 technology, offering five methods to restore the skin barrier. Unlike traditional moisturizers that sit with an oily coating on the surface, this balm becomes one with your skin to correct dryness from within. While the texture may feel different, it's a far more effective solution for dry skin and barrier restoration.

If you should prefer a rich, coated feel use Rest Day Masque but Skin Recovery Balm alone provides all the moisture retention a dry skin type requires for barrier health maintenance. To learn more about barrier repair read this post.

It doesn't seem to spread like dry skin moisturizers I'm used to using.

Upon application, it will feel tacky, and once absorbed, it’s like it becomes one with your skin by creating a protective, moisture-locking seal that lasts overnight and can still be felt in the morning. It is this seal that is the beginning of barrier restoration to help correct dryness and dehydration, not just topically, but from deep within the skin.

If you prefer a more slippy application, using a toner and serum underneath your moisturizer will enhance the results for your skin while increasing spreadability.

How long before I can see an improvement of dryness?

A skin’s life cycle is 28 days, so it’s important to give any product time to see results. Dry, flaky skin needs time to cycle out and fall off, giving way to new, soft and supple skin.

Will the Usnic Acid irritate my sensitive skin?

Despite its name, Usnic Acid isn’t an exfoliant, it actually soothes inflammation and supports barrier repair, making it perfect for sensitive skin.

What ingredients provide the moisture-locking seal?

A blend of emollients and occlusives like dimethicone, shea butter and ceramides. To learn more about the five methods to repair a skin barrier, read this post.

    Where are your products made?

Our products are manufactured in the U.S.

I took your Skin Type Quiz and was wondering if I can use products that weren't specified for my skin type?

Yes. While the skin type product recommendations are carefully selected for the needs of a specific type of skin to give the best results, many people will modify their routine with other products as needed.

I have questions about my skin, where can I get help?

Email us and we would be happy to provide expert advice!

How is Skin Recovery Balm different than Skin Recovery Lotion?

Skin Recovery Lotion is oil-free and more suitable for oily, acne-prone skin while addressing dehydration and barrier repair.

How is Skin Recovery Balm different than Rest Day Masque?

Skin Recovery Balm is a moisturizer for daily barrier health maintenance, while Rest Day Masque is a deeply restorative weekly masque (or can be used more often) for correcting visible dryness and flaking caused by retinoids, chemical peels, and other drying topical treatments. In a regular skincare routine, they work synergistically to give your skin everything it needs for maximum moisture and comfort.

      The Balm

The only reason I’m giving it four stars is because the consistency takes a little getting used to. It really works as described and my face is smooth and hydrated in the morning.

      Dehydrating

I used this for a week and my skin was so dry and tight. It seemed to flush and have little bumps too. Then I read somewhere to give it 28 days!? That seemed unrealistic and I already sent it back because it bothered me so much. It felt really heavy and suffocating, but not moisturizing. It didn’t help at all!

      Hi,
Thank you for sharing this! Skin Recovery Balm creates a moisture-locking seal, almost like a "second skin" and that is the magic for true barrier restoration from within. Renee used a more modern technology in this formula than traditional moisturizers do, so it will feel different. We are so sorry to hear that you this was not a fit for your skin.

Every skin is unique in the way it reacts or adjusts to a product. 28 days refers to a skin’s life cycle but you know your skin best and if your skin is telling you something, it's best to listen and discontinue use.

      Must have Magic

My first product from this brand line and what an introduction! I have combination skin, and this somehow moisturizes without feeling heavy or oily. I have been using for about a week and have already noticed a big difference in my skin. Upon application it seems to sink right in as if it was made just for me!

Causes burning and irritation after 10 days of use

I am a long time Renee Rouleau customer and have been using the Phytolipid Comfort Creme for years. I was sad when it was discontinued, but excited to try this new product that replaced it. It felt okay at first, not as hydrating as the Phytolipid comfort creme, but still good. After the first several days, I started noticing irritation, but thought it was my skin adjusting. After 7 days, I was experiencing burning with the application of the creme and decided to stop using it. I have never had any issue with RR products before, so I'm not sure what is different in this particular creme. I have sensitive skin and Rosacea, so I thought it might be helpful to others who may have used the Phytolipid Comfort Creme to know this different and can potentially cause irritation. I had written a review previously - about 10 days ago - and it never appeared on the web site, so I'm trying again in case it was a glitch on my end. I hope RR doesn't delete negative reviews of the products. I was a subscription customer for years, so I know I'm in the database as a verified customer. Products that are formulated for sensitive skin need honest feedback especially when customers experience negative reactions to the product.

Thank you for sharing this and being such a longtime, loyal customer of ours. We appreciate you! As for reviews, they do not automatically post once you hit submit. They are reviewed by us to ensure they are within Federal Trade Commission guidelines. Due to these guidelines, reviews are never, ever edited. All reviews are queued to be reviewed, responded to, and posted. We love hearing from our customers!

Discontinuing long-standing products is not an easy decision for Renee, but there have just been too many advancements in barrier repair technology and she wanted to give our customers her very best. With that being said, we are sorry to hear that your skin didn't respond positively to it. I would recommend our Rest Day Masque, which uses three methods of barrier repair (not five like Skin Recovery Balm), and gives a richer feel if you like a more topical experience.
