History
When she was a young girl, Renée spent countless hours in her grandmother’s beauty salon where she witnessed both female entrepreneurship and the way a nurturing touch could improve a woman’s outlook and self-esteem – and perhaps, even her life. These lessons stayed with Renée as she matured. By the time she was a teen, she was concocting skin potions to help her girlfriends fight the break-out blues.
Like many entrepreneurs, college was not part of Renée’s plan. But memories of her grandmother led her to beauty school and an esthetician’s license. In 1991, not long after getting her license, Renée and a partner opened their own skin spa, Elizabeth Renée Esthetics, in Wellesley, Massachusetts. There she discovered her very first product, Anti-Cyst Treatment (now Anti-Bump). This quickly became a favorite amongst her customers and Renée found another true love – running a business!
Looking for an adventure, Renée decided to take the lessons learned from her first spa and relocate to Dallas, Texas where she opened the first Renée Rouleau Skin Care Spa in 1996. During this time, her hands-on experience led her to create her now-famous Nine Skin Types. This is a proprietary ‘personal skin prescription’ system that addresses nine, distinct skin types, rather than the typical dry, normal or oily classifications. She also began developing her own product line, blending the best of science and nature and avoiding ingredients that might irritate or clog pores.
In 1999, with a growing skincare line, Renée Rouleau Skin Care launched its first e-commerce site, and began selling its own products online. In 2004, the spa moved from Dallas to Plano; Renée opened the second Renée Rouleau Skin Care Spa in downtown Dallas in 2007. In 2009, Renée began her highly successful blog to share her knowledge and educate consumers about skin. That same year, with business growing, Renée’s late husband Florian Oger joined her business as its first COO, overseeing the daily operations.
In 2015, looking for new adventures yet again, Renée and her husband decided to relocate themselves and the company to its current home in Austin, Texas. As e-commerce started to grow, Renée decided to leave the spa services business and focus on her growing line of skincare products, closing the Dallas spa location in 2017 and the Plano location in 2020.
Today, with the company focused on direct-to-consumer ecommerce sales, Renée Rouleau Skin Care has over 50 products in its line, ships products to all over the world, and continues to educate consumers via her popular blog, social media outlets, and speaking engagements.
